James Street South

We have designed a number of successful restaurants throughout Ireland. Examples include Paul Rankin's Roscoff and Cayenne in Belfast, Conrad Gallagher's Lloyds in Dublin, The Ramore on Portrush harbour on the north coast, Equinox and Cafe Paul Rankin in Belfast, and the popular Espresso Bar chain in Dublin.

Belfast chef Niall McKenna has been at the forefront of modern cookery in Northern Ireland for over 10 years. We have undertaken a number of restaurant projects for Niall, including James Street South, The Bar & Grill at James Street South, and Hadskis.

The original James Street South comprised the creation of a top end restaurant within what had been for years bland office space. The building was carefully stripped back to its original manifestation to reveal and enjoy the original tall ceilings and cast iron columns.
This restaurant has recently been the subject of a thorough redesign to reflect the 'social venture' restaurant which he now operates there. We have unified the whole room by virtue of a continuous bar counter and kitchen pass. The theatre of both of these elements enlivens the dining room.

The Bar & Grill at James Street South comprised the extensive remodelling of a three storey former mill building to accommodate a restaurant, cookery school and private dining facilities. The restaurant is animated by the dominant position of a lively bar and by generous glimpses of the busy kitchen. Bespoke artworks were commissioned to integrate with the architecture.

Hadski's, in Belfast's Cathedral Quarter, is a uniquely long narrow space again enlivened by the bar and by a dining counter completely open to the drama of the kitchen.

We are presently working on other restaurants, and we welcome new enquiries.
